Forms, Structures, Proportions

It is little known today that architectonic forms, structures and proportions have a decisive effect on the acoustical quality of spaces, despite existing historic buildings and ensembles setting positive examples.

Our initial idea was that this has great potential which should be turned to practical up-to-date use. The idea was followed by several years of interdisciplinary research which led to the development of a novel approach to acoustics in the context of urban/architectural environments. It is an original architectural approach, based on designing forms, structures and proportions in a way that results directly in acoustically excellent spaces, without further additions or corrections, and without the use of "artificial" materials.

Unique opportunities

In a unique way, this approach makes it possible to design spaces that have an acoustical quality which is in tune with the context, contributes to a place's identity, and – most of all – specifically and precisely supports its purpose and use. Our solutions are oriented to achieving a harmonious, balanced environment and therefore to creating acoustics that are in tune with the other properties of a space (visual, tactile, etc.) and ensure intellegibility of spaces/spatial systems and their functions.

Spaces that make a good acoustic response and have a colourful timbre are more likely to be pleasant and well-functioning, and our methods focus on creating and enhancing these features. Therefore, contrary to common practice, our solutions are not based on the primary use of absorption techniques, because absorption diminishes a space´s response and increases monotony.

Our way of working is site- and situation-specific and committed to using materials carefully and economically. We develop tailored-to-purpose solutions that can be made by craftspeople on site, mostly of natural materials, all of which is, among other advantages, very cost-effective.
