Sonic Atelier is a partnership by acousticians/architectural theorists Ines Kargel and Fabian Neuhaus. We are committed to interdisciplinary theoretical work in acoustics and urban architecture, tracing problems to their roots and developing methods for solving them. Additional to independent research, analysis, development of strategies and methodological tools, we provide concepts and prototypical designs as well as technical prototypes for hitherto unsolved problems. Our solutions are based on critically rethinking criteria and techniques in acoustics as to their practical consequences on diverse levels, such as human physiological and psychological dispositions, the natural environment, physics, architecture and urban design, political implications, philosophical dimensions. The focus of our activities is on the creation of harmonious, democratic,
pleasant-to-use places, which we consider a precondition for social and
ecological sustainability. This includes replacing one-dimensional ways
of dealing with acoustical problems, and initiating a positive approach
that furthers the development of environments of great acoustical and
general quality. |
